What is ALS?

ALS is a group of related neurodegenerative diseases that cause the neurons in the brain, brain stem and spinal cord to degenerate and die, which leads to muscle weakness, paralysis and eventually death.

Early Symptoms of ALS

No single test can provide a definitive diagnosis of ALS. Instead, the diagnosis S is primarily based on the symptoms and signs the physician observes in the patient and a series of tests to rule out other diseases.

ALS-An Umbrella Disease

ALS is not just one disease, but a collection of many different diseases that share the name Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. We know this because there are more than 30 different genes that have been identified that an fail or mis-fold.
