ALS Worldwide
July 10, 2017

Sal, a wonderful father with ALS. We celebrate his life on Father’s day.

Sal and his family

And we will always celebrate the lives of all fathers with ALS and mourn the memory of those who are gone.

We first met Sal Koyuncu and his children six years ago in London, one of many meetings scheduled with ALS/MND/ELA patients in the UK who contact ALS Worldwide for our support. He was as loving, caring, thoughtful and intelligent a person as the photo shows. Not long before his death, he and his brother Mehmet, their dear friend Nick, our son-in-law Barry Wein and I (Steve Byer) fulfilled one of Sal's greatest wishes---to go to Graceland in Memphis and see the birthplace and celebrate the life of Elvis. It was a joyous, raucous, laughing, eating, goofy, music-filled, wonderful week.

Just two months after Sal returned to his home in Hull, UK, he was unable to call for assistance via his toe-controlled emergency device during the night. His death was unexpected, shocking, tragic and a great loss to his children, brother, all other family , his enormous range of friends and loved ones, and very much to those of us at ALS Worldwide who embraced Sal as any family member would.

Rest in peace, Sal, and may you and all others lost to this dreadful, still not fully-explained , tragic disease be rocking with Elvis. We love, and miss, all of you.
