Kerry Ryan

Kerry Ryan passed away January 29, 2014 after almost three years of bravely, uncomplainingly fighting ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Kerry was born in Manhasset Long Island, New York on April 3, 1957. With his parents, Helen and Thomas Ryan, and his two brothers, Tommy and David, he moved to Rustic Canyon in 1970.

He grew up here attending Canyon School, Paul Revere, Palisades High School and graduating from UCLA.

Kerry came to his faith in his twenties and lived out that faith all of his life. Kerry was a leader in “Young Life” and was beloved by the young people that he guided like a big brother. He volunteered to build houses with Habitat for Humanity and was always available for anybody who needed a friend. He was a gentle, spiritual, loving compassionate man with the grin of a boy that made many lasting friendships.

He was a star athlete playing innumerable tennis tournaments, surfing California’s waves, hiking its mountains and biking its trails. He bicycled with his friend Rich Larsen from Wichita, Kansas arriving ultimately in New York. He traveled with his friends to Southeast Asia, Australia, Europe, the Pacific and Central America.

He was the comedian for his nieces and nephews: Shannon, Jennifer, Christine, Kelly, Sean, Elizabeth, Thomas and Kathleen who always enjoyed his antics. He worked with Wm. O’Neil Co., Financial News Network, Drake Capital and his own investments.

He will be deeply missed by his parents Thomas and Helen Ryan, his brothers Thomas and David and all the Ryan clan. His many dear friends with whom he shared innumerable joyous moments and who greatly supported him toward the end will find a big void. He was one of a kind.
