Methylcobalamin B12 Information / Instructions

A prescription is required from a physician for either pre-filled syringes of Methylcobalamin B12 or a re-injectable vial shipped with 30 or more single-use 1” SQ syringes.

Intramuscular Injection

  1. One injection daily in AM after meal.
  2. Any excess methyl-B12 not bound to receptors will be filtered from the blood by the kidneys and excreted into the urine within 30-45 minutes after the injection which may cause urine to be pink or reddish.
  3. Injections are administered into the muscle of the upper arms and thighs, once a day at the same time each day.  Early morning shots are more beneficial for the extra energy that is obtained.
  4. Comfort:  If desired, a commercially available anesthetic cream can be used to deaden the area where the injection is given.  Apply ½ hour prior to the injection. However, for most, the injection is painless.
  5. Remove the syringe from the refrigerator approximate 20 minutes before administering.  If using a re-injectable vial, fill the syringe and place the remainder of the vial back in the refrigerator.
  6. Place syringe in a drawer to keep out of the light.  When ready for the injection, remove from the drawer and hold in your hand for a minute or two to warm up the liquid.
  7. Dispose of used syringes in a Sharps Container available at any local pharmacy.
  8. Response may be noticeable within a brief amount of time.

General Information

  1. The cost for Methylcobalamin B12 when NOT covered by insurance is approximately
    1. $216 (a 20% reduction to the patient) for multiple use (30 dosage) re-injectable vial.
    2. If the patient preference is for 30 prefilled syringes, cost increases to $300.
  2. Overnight shipment cost is approximately $10-25 for either a one or two month shipment within the US.
  3. When the insurance company covers the cost, the prefilled syringes are automatically shipped.
